one of my Fall goals is to explore the art of baking bread. Just me, in my kitchen, kneading dough with my own two hands (...and a very happy husband of course!) This is the second list of recipes I've tried for this project. You can read about the first here.
confession: I had a completely different post planned for today. But this weekend I went a little baking crazy and really couldn't wait to share about the bread I made. You guys. I am LOVING this project. (I do however promise this blog isn't about to turn into a baking blog...at least I think not...haha!)
so here's the next set of breads I've tried:
basic bread: rosemary & garlic baguette
recipe I used: this recipe from Always with Butter Blog
my thoughts: I was a bit intimidated by the idea of making a baguette, as I don't feel I've got the grasp on a basic loaf of bread yet. But when I made my list of quintessential basic bread recipes that I wanted to try, there was just no way to get around making one. So I picked a recipe and got to it. And it worked! Honestly, this was the first time in my entire experience of bread baking where I was completely shocked by what I saw when I opened the oven. We enjoyed this over the weekend with some oil & vinegar, cheese, and a salad and it was perfect. Baking this bread was sort of like that time I climbed to the top of a rock wall. I know, I know...it's just a loaf of bread. But it's so empowering to do something you didn't think you could!
will I make this again: well, I've already made 2 baguettes so I'll probably have to wait awhile but I will absolutely be making this again!
non loaf: Flakey Goat Cheese Chive Biscuits
recipe I used: this recipe found through Pinterest
my thoughts: I wanted to include a good Buttermilk Biscuit in this experiment, but since I've made these often, I thought I would look for something a little more adventurous. This recipe fit that description perfectly. These were so delicious I barely had time to snap this photo before they were gone!
will I make this again: yes
sweet bread: banana bread
recipe I used: this recipe (with a few of my own tweaks)
For months, I have been on the hunt for the perfect Banana bread recipe. I like my banana bread pretty dry and Waldi likes his very banana-ish. So, naturally I've been looking for something to keep us both happy. And I think I've found it. I made this recipe (which I had tried before) with a few tweaks and it came out perfect! Note: this is an old photo of a previous time I made this recipe (without any changes) because, well...see above note...
will I make this again: you betcha.
Wow, you really did a lot of baking! The baguette looks lovely, I will definitely try that recipe :)
ReplyDeletewell, the banana bread was earlier in the week but the other two were from the weekend ;) If you try the recipe let me know what you think!
